Sarratt Walk 04
Footpath signpost
A relatively short circular walk of just 3 miles beginning and ending at Sarratt village hall.
It's a gentle, flat walk (apart from the 200yds or so up Dawes Lane) that is suitable for families, although of course any accompanying dogs must be kept under control at all times, and meanders through some lovely woods and fields.
This walk took me a little over an 1hr on a lovely day in mid July 2012.
A map of the walk is attached HERE

Start with your back to the village hall, turn left and walk up towards The Green, passing "The Cricketers" public house and the village pond.
Continue on past the school but before reaching the shop, take the tarmac driveway/footpath on your left signposted to Church End, leading down between the houses. |
Follow this driveway down to the end where you pass through a kissing gate into an open field.
These fields are often shared with cows and can on occasions be a little "messy"!! Keeping to the left hand side, by the hedge continue on through/over two more stiles until you reach the entrance to Sandfield Wood |
Exit from Sandfield Wood onto a narrow road.
Here you will see this strikingly bizarre gate which was actually sculpted by the Revd Edward Ryley who was Rector of the Holy Cross Church between 1859 and 1912 To me it looks like he'd had too much sherry, but that's just my opinion. |
When you exit Sandfield Wood onto Dawes Lane, by whichever path, turn right and continue onward up Dawes Lane to the junction with The Green.
Passing White Oaks Farm on your way on the right and Dawes Common on your left. As you emerge from Dawes Lane you will see The Boot public house directly opposite |
About 20 yards to the right of "The Boot" PH there is a narrow footpath that runs beside the pub's garden.
Proceed down this path, go through a kissing gate into the field then take a right diagonal path across 3 small fields going through the stiles as required. Beware the left hand field does have some stables and every time I've been on this path there has been several horses around so if you have dogs or children do take care. Head towards the tennis courts on the far right hand side. |
A sample of what I was talking about in the last text.
Continue on beside the tennis courts and onward to Deadman's Ash Lane where you turn left. After about 75 yards you will see Newhall Farm Drive on your right and although marked "Private" this is where you need to go - don't worry it is open to walkers. |
Turn left at Deadmans Ash Lane, then immediately right at the junction of Sarratt Road and Dimmocks Lane and this will return you to the Village Hall, on your left after about 400 yards.
I hope you enjoyed your walk and the weather was kind. . If you found any errors, spelling or otherwise, or difficulty with my directions then do please let me know, I'm always looking to improve my information. Suggestions are also always welcome. |
