Sarratt Walk 11
Beautiful tree covered pathway to Chipperfield Common
A pleasant circular walk of just 4.0 miles beginning and ending at Sarratt village hall.
It's a gentle, predominantly flat walk that is suitable for families, although of course any accompanying dogs must be kept under control at all times, and meanders through the lovely areas of Penmans Green and Chipperfield Common passing the beautiful Commonwood House on the way.
This walk took me an 1hr 30mins on a cloudy but warm day in late August 2012.
A map of the walk is attached HERE

With your back to the village hall, cross the main road and proceed along George V Way opposite.
When you reach The Briars take the footpath dead ahead and continue forward passing the tennis courts and on down the hill past the stables on your left until you reach Bottom Lane. Turn left and then immediately right uphill along Quickmoor Lane with Commonwood House on your left as you reach the top. |
Follow this road all the way round, there is a footpath running roughly parallel on the left hand side for much of this stretch
The signs, pictured below will give you a good idea of the area and its wildlife, well worth stopping to have a read. Follow the road all the way round un til you reach its junction with Hillmeads Farm Drive which will be on your left. |
This the lovely tree covered footpath takes you from Penmans Gree (Hillmeads Farm Drive) through into Chipperfield Common.
When I passed through here I was shocked to hear what sounded like a gunshot when in actual fact it was a squirrel who had fallen from a tree along with the branch he had obviously been standing on - quite a fright it gave me I assure you!! |
When you emerge on to Chipperfield Common turn left past and continue forward for about 500yds, passsing, on your left, Mole House, White Oaks and Mahogany Hall.
Cross over the intersecting path onto a narrower path and continu forward past Penmans End, Little Winch and Brackenhurst. |
Follow the track around Dellfield House to your right and emerge onto Plough Lane.
Go right and cross the road, then take the first footpath on your left (about30yds) signposted Sarratt Green. Go left on the footpath, up the hill keeping the hedges on your right over two stiles to emerge by the Old Forge on Bragmans Lane. |
Turn left at Bragmans Lane and go forward into Sarratt village with the Village hall at the bottom of the Green on your right.
I hope you enjoyed your walk, and that the weather was kind. If you found any errors, spelling or otherwise, or difficulty with my directions then do please let me know, I'm always looking to improve my information. Suggestions are also always welcome. |
